ABOUT BHASKARACHARYA INSTITUTE FOR SPACE APPLICATIONS & GEO-INFORMATICS
Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG), Government of Gujarat, was established under the Ninth Five year plan to promote applications of space technology for developmental activities in the state pertaining to Agriculture, Land and Water Resource Management, Wasteland/Watershed Development, Forestry, Disaster Management, Infrastructure and Education. BISAG has been accredited with ISO 9001:2000 and Information Security Management System (ISO 27001).
The Institute endeavors to augment and enhance the applications of space technology and geo-informatics to support various developmental activities through creatively organized, comprehensive multi-purpose geo-spatial databases, web services and satellite communication. Efforts have been directed to further enrich these multi-purpose geo-spatial databases by including a number of varied sectors and domains.
BISAG is a service provider and acts as a bridge between the defined policies and guidelines of the Government and requirements of the functionaries and individuals through capacity building and transfer of technology to the end user. It has established partnerships and collaborations with various departments for developing low-cost, simple and easy to use solutions.
Capacity building and support is extended in terms of absorbing the database, to understand and make it usable in an informative manner and to set it as a base. State and functionaries interact and bring specific problems based on multi-purpose geo-spatial databases.
BISAG also attempts to institutionalize the applications of space technology through encouraging and transferring the same to a number of end-users in various Government departments and student communities. BISAG is the designated nodal agency for several national and state level projects including Department of Space, Govt. of India, sponsored NNRMS, IMSD project, Wasteland Mapping, Wetland Mapping, CAPE etc.
BISAG is the implementing agency for Component D: Integration of Geo-Spatial Information. Under this component, BISAG is responsible for developing a Geo-Spatial Coastal Information System (up to village level) for the Gujarat and thereby aide the process of integrated coastal zone planning and management at various levels.
